Wednesday was a good day. The traffic was too heavy to use cruise control on the way to AL, but it was moving along ok. Scott called me as I was almost there, and I guess I had the music too loud to hear my phone, even in my lap. He just wanted to know if I needed anything from the store.
Barb miscalculated the time per pound for their roast, so "dinner" wasn't until 3:00 or so. We even opened presents before eating, which we never do. I was only being polite. I could have eaten when I got there! Fuckers. I wasn't waiting on a stinking carcass! I took my T0furky slices thinking they were having ham sandwiches as usual. Oh well. I just made some extra lima beans from Barb's apocalypse cabinet.
So Scott got me a Garm!n, but he mistakenly assumed I'd want the one without voice commands. I guess that's because I talked back to his so much. I want the option! It would definitely be easier than trying to read that think and drive. So, he is returning that one, and the new one is already on its way. He's the (gadget) man!
Dad and Barb gave us cash. And a pink P3d Egg. Why? Why does she continue to buy me pink things when I've told her flat out that I hate it? P3d Eggs are cool, though. I have one, so I gave the pink one to Stacey, because I knew she wanted one. She also gave me some Pr@da lotion by mistake. See, she gave Donna a bottle of cologne, and I said I liked it. She said, oh go get the bottle out of the bathroom closet. I didn't realize until I got home that it was lotion. I asked her about it, and she said, D'oh! I'll get you some cologne and Donna some lotion next time. Apparently she has a connection.
I told Allan not to get me anything, so he didn't. I'm buying gifts next year, dammit.
Thursday was pleasant, as well. No more traffic than we're used to on the way to (fucking) Gwinnett. Jeff took the new rifle to show it off. Silly. My BIL sent me home with some handgun handling and tactical instructional videos. I've watched one, and it was very interesting, if long. Luckily it isn't make for women or complete novices, or I'd probably be annoyed. The first one talked about reloading and clearing malfunctions in "critical situations."
Anyway, I took my fake steak, and they had ham with out home grown green beans and corn, and mashed potatoes, etc. There was sweet potato pie, but no whippy cream. Bummer.
We got cash from his mom, and we gave her the DVD/VCR player she wanted. She wrote that I could call her mom if I wanted to on my card. She always does that. I wrapped his niece's gift card in 4-5 boxes (with extra weight added) just for fun. Hey, I didn't get to wrap much of anything this year or last. I love wrapping gifts. It reminded me of when Jeff did that to me when we were dating, except that time the big box was from a TV, and there were metal weights inside to throw me off.
Jeff had to go in for a while on Friday, but got a free steak lunch from his boss. I got a lot of cleaning and file purging done.
On Saturday, we went to the gun show. Holy shit. There was a long line of people waiting to get inside 30 minutes after the doors opened. I've never seen that before. Everyone's buying into the panic/hype. Luckily Jeff doesn't buy into it, even after reading an article in a gun magazine at his sister's. We just wanted to get some ammo, since we were out of almost everything. We ended up getting another 9mm, though, and it is sweet. It's not as small as the one I carry sometimes, though. And the price was right. We figured 9mm rounds were cheaper than 40, which is what we wanted initially. And those two calibers are very close.
That place was so crowded that I started to get angry, and the urge to elbow people. At one ammo table, a guy was on my right, Jeff on the left. He was asking a question about a box of ammo. The dude leans over ans says, "What....?" I don't know what all he said. The singing of my eyebrows from his swamp mouth distracted me. I mean, there is bad breath (he wasn't the only one), but this dude had something rotting in there. Srsly.
I wanted to look at some knives, but the aisle was so crowded that I started to get claustrophobic. So, I got out of there and off to the side while Jeff waited to get the rest of our ammo.
We shared a special moment (ha) with his friend, Chuck, who bought a mini 14 that was in excellent shape. After getting Jeff's opinion (in good shape, good price), I told him, you know you want it. And he did.
We also ran into one of his co-workers, one of the guys who went shooting with us. I think that's it. No one else we knew. Too many people.
On Sunday, we ran a bunch of errands. Took nearly all day. Later, we watched Wanted. Eh. The best part was when he told his annoying boss to shut the fuck up. Angelina's hot, though, if a bit thin.
I made the mistake of trying to catch the Coltranes by myself this morning. I caught the boys without too much problem (or injury), but not their sister. Even scruffed, she is dangerous. She bit the shit out of my finger. Believe it or not, with all my cats and the strays I've dealt with, this is the worst I've even been bitten. It's slightly swollen and painful, but it doesn't look too bad. I washed my hands, used peroxide, Neospor!n, and bandaged it within 10 minutes.
The vet I saw in the morning told me to go to my doctor to get antibiotics (and clean it often). I want to wait until tomorrow to see if it gets worse. I do not like to take antibiotics at the drop of a hat.
Jeff caught her with a towel with hardly any problem. Fucker. He said he guessed I was being too rough. WTF ever. She started it.
The vet I saw this afternoon told me to keep it out of bandages, soak it in Epsom salt, keep moving it around, and watch for red lines coming from it. I left a message with my doctor's office, since I was getting such conflicting opinions (online), but I probably won't hear from the until tomorrow.
I probably forgot some stuff, but that's enough for now. Time to go soak my injury.

divas and deodorant
We had an ok weekend. Baby the Diva ate whenever she wanted. She still won't eat anything that has been sitting out (even tuna), but I've been able to fool her by nuking it for a few seconds so it's not cold. But she's eating, and that's what's important.
Jeff mentioned again that he will build her some steps, but he also said that months ago. I told him I didn't know how much time we had left. Seriously. We don't.
Jeff got my instrument panel reinstalled Friday night, luckily. He did it while I drove his truck to the gym to work out. Stacey told me she got me a gift, "as sort of gag gift." Hmmm. She said I'd joked about getting it, but hadn't. I asked her how she knew, and she said she thought I'd tell her. I think it might be the gun show shirt. She really didn't have to get me anything.* I know she needs the money, and I didn't buy anything for anyone.
We did get Jeff's mom and niece something. His sister called and told him what she wanted Saturday. Way to leave us no time. I did email them about a week ago asking for suggestions. She wanted a DVD/VCR combo. She said not to get his niece anything, but we got her a gift card to W@lmart. We don't buy anything for the "adults," but we do buy for the kids and "old people." We ended up at two W@lmarts that day, because the first one didn't have what we wanted in stock. We didn't go to the hellish one in H!ram, though. Ugh. The traffic over there when we went to lunch and P3tSmart was bad enough.
Before that we went back to the C0mcast office in Mar!etta. I had taken the box and remote out there Thursday, but forgot the power cable. Fuck a $30 charge on that! They will not get another dime from me. So we had to wait 20 minutes in line. Damn. I should have gone Friday afternoon, but it was rainy and I didn't have blinkers, and I knew traffic would be bad, as it was Saturday.
*It was "clinical strength" deodorant, kind of a joke between us. (She uses it, too.) And this. |m|
I sent $800 to my credit card. Woo! Hope I have enough for groceries one more time. What I didn't factor in was my refills - $85 total. I'm getting them one more time before the insurance changes, just in case. And allergy shots! And hanging out with Leigh on NYE. Oh wait, that will be pay day! And Jeff will be paying $200 a month toward the gun purchases. I guess he may send part of his portion of the tax return in. Otherwise he won't get it paid of until about September. I plan to hit it with as much as I can, and lay off the supplements, etc. Well, except for about 4 - multi, cal/mag, holy basil, and acne stuff. I want to buy xmas gifts next year. If only the animals can avoid any more medical emergencies.
That's another thing. How much should I try with Baby? Is it inhumane to not give her that daily pill if it will prolong her life? Should I not worry about it while she's still mobile, hungry, and alert (despite her low weight)? I don't know.
Though I didn't plan on it, I'm working at home today. The button on my shifter fell out and will not stay in place. I didn't notice a problem on Sunday when I ran errands. On Monday morning I put my hand on the shifter and it had fallen onto the floorboard. I could not figure out how to get it to stay in there. So, I decided to work at home so Jeff could take it in and fix it. What a pain in the ass.
I'm going to work out, then help train Stacey tonight. I guess I'm...honored is not quite the right word...more than happy to help in any way I can. Then tomorrow, AL. I may need that new deodorant.

Yeah, just what she needs. Baby before GED.
Piece of shit.
Baby is getting demanding with this food thing. She demands food any time she wants, will not eat it if it's sat out for too long, and sometimes won't eat it if I've refrigerated it and then nuked it (only 5 seconds). I gave her tuna yesterday, too, and the type I'd bought was large solid chunks, so I broke it up with my fingers. Spoiled rotten diva. Whatever. Jeff says she's pushing it, I say she gets whatever she wants.
Health/insurance update - my last results were normal. Woo! So that's a year after my cryotherapy. Now I'll have to have 2 rechecks next year. After that, not sure. Another good thing - with the new HMO I won't need referrals to see specialists! So that eliminates a layer of bureaucracy with the allergist, especially since he (and my dermatologist, PCP, and gynecologist) are all in network. Such a relief. I'll probably get refills, and will definitely get allergy shots by 12/31 just in case. Otherwise, all I have to do is give them my new card when I go back in.
My Dad called me on Wednesday night at 10:30. I'd managed to go to bed at a decent hour (9ish), and the call sprung me out of bed. Like when I'm on call. (Just part of the stress of that.) Some kid that lives with my Granddad and his wife (niece or something?) has a school play. Great. I could barely mumble out, "Hello?" and then "Why are we just now learning this?" "Oh, Barb just reminded me that you were coming, so I wanted to call you in case you'd made plans..." Oh well. I can at least drop off the old C0mcast equipment, which is a pain in the ass itself.
Oh, and I have no tachometer, no speedometer, no gas gauge. I do have the fuel used, so I can guess by that. He finally called the warranty company and took my car Wednesday afternoon to remove the instrument panel. He was told it would take 3 days to receive the rebuilt unit. And also, my blinkers don't work. I didn't discover this until I was well on my way to work. Shit. I use those things a lot. And I don't change lanes like an asshole, either, but I have to do a lot of merging. Well, I guess I'll have to change lanes like an asshole now, without blinkers. At least my brake lights still work.
Oh yeah. My sister is pregnant. Way to go. I figured it was only a matter of time. She always seemed nonchalant about it, even when I was trying to help her with prevention. Her mom said she told her she was happy for her. Sorry, I am not.
And to think, I'd just been saying when comparing her to Jeff's niece's situation, that I was glad she didn't have a baby. So much for that. She was already pregnant when I said that last month.

I knew this was coming
Class was pretty good on Thursday. Stacey's trying to kill me. Jack's training her hard, and she's taking it out on me, holding focus mitts and calling out combinations. I think she's going to force me to go into a sauna with her, too, when it's time to cut weight.
I took Baby and Rufus to the vet on Friday. Rufus for yearly shots, Baby for a 6 month wellness check. She's lost weight (almost a pound since June), as we already knew. But we're pretty sure she'd lost more, but has gained a little back since we started feeding her whenever she wants. They couldn't get urine, so I'll have to take her back the week after xmas when I take the Coltranes in.
I got a massage after that. We had been talking about working out, and the kickboxing class she's started taking. She got to my legs and said, "How often are you going to the gym?" Six days, if nothing comes up. "Well, you're solid." Sweet. Makes me feel better, since I made the mistake of stepping on the scale at the vet. Building muscle, fully clothed, and a day from starting my period = bad idea.
On Saturday, I'd decided to skip my classes so I could vacuum and straighten up before the cable dudes were scheduled to be here (between 12 and 2). A guy knocked on the door around 10:30 to let me know he was doing some work outside before the inside guys got here. I had to unplug the DSL, and the phones were out for a while.
At around 1:30, he knocked again to say he was leaving, and asked if the other guy had called yet. He had not. He said he'd hook the phones back up, and try to find out where he was. Then I didn't see anyone. At 2:30, I called customer service. All they could tell me is that the guy had not left his morning appointment. Great. I saw a couple trucks out there around 3:30 or so, and one pull up and look around like, where is everyone? He didn't get here until around 4:15, and didn't leave until around 7:30. I didn't make a scene, though. I told them as they were leaving (when they apologized again for being so late) that I'd missed a memorial for my friend's mom. Jeff wasn't here most of that time, and even if he was, I'm the one who needed to be here to see what was going on, and get the tutorial, and do initial setup, etc. He said they'd had a major installation with 5 TVs before mine. So, if they had to replace wiring and cable jacks, and install coax into rooms, I'm sure it took a while.
And there will be no service for Anne. I feel like a tool. Beth said it was ok, though. I just wish I could have been there.
But the system has been awesome so far. Haven't watched anything recorded yet, but I've set up to record the shows that aren't yet done for the year. Should be cool. I can even access my DVR online to schedule, delete or cancel programs. There's even a Headbnanger's Ball music channel! And the picture is soooo clear. And the internet and phones are just fine, plus we get unlimited long distance on the phones now, like we do on the cell phones.
I never did send a strongly worded email to the gun shop, but Jeff found a rebate from the manufacturer of the rifle. I had to call the store and have them fax me a copy of the federal form I had to fill out, and send a copy of it and the receipt in. I think it's for $125, so bonus!
So now Jack wants me to help train Clint and Stacey. He knows I'm nearby, and off the week after xmas. I may have to hold focus mitts, pads, or even spar with her. Since he's literally training them both at the same time, he needs another person to help. They're both fighting on 1/24. I'll definitely be there. Maybe I can talk Jeff into going with me.
He mentioned the week after xmas. I don't have much going on that week, besides taking the Coltranes to the vet, getting allergy shots, and hanging out with Leigh one day. I was told there's no need for Baby to go back in. Her renal failure has continued, and is getting worse. She's also slightly anemic. There's a low protein food she can eat, but she may not like it, as cats sometimes don't. She also can't stand to lose more weight. There's also a daily medication I could give her to help, but I'm undecided. I think I could manage it, and it might not stress her too much, but would I be prolonging the inevitable? I may get it when I go there in a couple weeks, but I'm not sure. They told me to just feed her often with whatever she loves, and keep her comfortable. She will die of kidney failure, it's just a matter of when. I'm ok with it for the moment. She's 17. She's still alert and mobile. I've had this in the back of my mind for a couple years now, since she first showed signs of this. If she starts to lose mobility, etc., I hope I can make that decision. As it is, I check her to make sure she's breathing when she's sleeping if she doesn't stir when I walk in or speak to her. She's kind of a hard sleeper, though.

R.I.P., Anne
Asshat.
This makes my blood boil.
I would like these better if they added "bag" to it.
Crazy cat lady luggage! You know, if I ever go anywhere. That was in a goofy catalog I received in the mail for some reason. And also lots of lovely cat sweaters! I'm joking, of course. (There's also dog, penguin, frog, turtle, dolphin, horse, wolf, and other themes.)
So. I checked my cell phone records. The lady from the jewelry store called me on 9/28. Nice. They apologized when I picked up the check. They said she "gets like that sometimes."
@T&T came here on Wednesday door-to-door offering a new fiber optic system for internet, phone, and cable. They offer either $17.99 cash back monthly for a year or $100 lump sum, and waiving the $99 installation fee if I signed up that day or the next. I told him I wasn't doing anything that night, so he said he'd come back. Sounds an awful lot like the home security spiel I got last year.
While the deal sounds good overall, the tactics make me skeptical. I looked on the message boards, asked around, and got good feedback from people who signed up the same way, employees who were testers, etc. So...I did it. A big draw was the ability to watch or record up to 4 programs at once, and watch them from any of my 3 TVs. This is the main reason I have not gotten a Tivo (or 3) up to this point. I am still using VCR tapes because I record some things that overlap, some things that I watch, and some things I watch with my husband. Never know on which of the 3 TVs I'll watch anything. So, woo!
And the prices are cheaper, even after the year of discounts ends. I'm so excited. I just hope there is no issue with my TVs, DVD players, VCRs, PCs, routers....etc. It's a lot of upheaval. I had gotten stuff in the mail about it, but put it aside because I had too much going on to properly research it. Well, we'll see.
I was supposed to help out with testing on Saturday, but I thought it was at 10am and not 1pm. I could have sworn that there were no classes before I tested. I'd have been wiped out! So, I stayed for the classes and left. Jeff and I had plans to go back to the gun store, then to the gun range. I was hoping my gun was still there. Luckily it was.
When we got there, I went right to it. There was a lady there being shown some other .38s by the guy who was there a couple weeks ago. I saw what was going on, and wormed my way up front, pointed and said, "Give me that one." I didn't want her to even get a glimpse of it. But then the guy had me give her a short tutorial on why I liked that gun, and what made me choose it. I guess she didn't know much about guns. Well, it's light, 7 shot(!), has a good grip, etc. I went into some other things, like how some don't like to have a hammer on revolvers they carry (but I do), and how some of the smaller guns have grips that are too small even though I have smaller hands, but not this one, etc. I let her hold it, and she said, "Oh, that is nice." I said, "Yeah, it's spoken for." I was practically giddy.
We also got a 308 caliber rifle, and I sold them the Rossi. Woo! From there, we went to the gun range. The .38 was as awesome as I knew it would be. The rubber grip was very comfortable. I could even shoot the thing without cocking the hammer, which I can't easily do with the Colt*.
*I finally ordered the only grip I could get for it. It looks a little funny, but it's definitely better than the tiny wood grips.
I got a call from Barbara on Sunday afternoon. I was busy, and she keeps me on the phone too long, so I let it ring. I figured it was just to catch up, or ask what to get us for xmas. It ended up being about my uncle deciding to confiscate my granddad from his controlling, nut case wife so we can see him before she carts him off to KY for xmas. They usually have a get together there on the weekend before a holiday, but they haven't in a while. Plus, no one can stand his wife. She tries to make him seem less mentally capable than he is. Or was. Perhaps she's driving him crazy. That's what my Dad thinks. And it's on a Thursday night. Shit. What about those of us who have, you know, JOBS ans shit? And live in another fucking state?!?
I'm going to go. I want to see my granddad while I can. He's 86. I saw him last year before Thanksgiving, but not for about 4 years before that.
Oh, then I talked to Dad about the guns. He said something about how the prices were up. "You know why, right?" Yeah. "Because Buckwheat was elected." I just said, "Lovely. On that note..." Geez. I guess I shouldn't expect anything better from him. I was just happy that no one brought anything up on Thanksgiving.
Oh, his rifle is an FNM, not H&R. We thought that up until we bought it because that's what they called it from the first time we looked at it. Now that we had the correct manufacturer, we could find the gun on their site. It was about $214 less than we paid. Why? I called, and they told me "that's not us. That's a warehouse in AZ..." Huh? They told Jeff the same thing when he called. How convenient. Won't make that mistake again. I'm drafting a strongly worded email. Not that it will do any good. Oh, and the receipt says "no returns on firearms," so we can't return it and order it at the cheaper price.
Beth's mom passed away today. Sad. I have very fond memories of her and her parents. They were always good to me and Jeff, even letting him live with them at one point, rent being paid by him helping with their kitchen addition. At least she is not in pain now.
I guess she didn't know much about guns. holiday and rants
My Marriage Calculator results:
People with similar backgrounds who are already divorced: 81%
People with similar backgrounds who will be divorced over the next five years: N/A
* In general for the five-year divorce prediction rates, those with less than 3 percent are at lower risk, 3 - 7 percent are of average risk and more than 7 percent are at higher risk.
Whoa.
Fucking hilarious.
Let's see. Thursday was the usual - Allan using the N word before I'd been there 5 minutes (and I smacked him), Aunt Diane entertained me (and everyone came to the conclusion that I'd be like her when I get older...and am a little bit now), lots of food, etc. They tried to give me hell about the dents in my hood, but quit after I explained what happened. They tried to talk Jeff off the ledge about the gun, but discovered that the caliber he wanted made the price higher.
On Friday I took some clothes to the consignment shop, and met Moe (a lady I met through Beth and the other ladies on one of the "rogue" message boards) up there to get the cat stuff she's been saving for me since her elderly cat died. So nice of her. Lots of canned food for Baby, a small bag of dry food, treats, toys, and a small box of litter. Didn't take me long to go through the dry food, and the litter's almost gone. We went ahead and went to the grocery store. Had to get all my chores done, since Sunday would be an all day thing.
On Saturday, not much went on. Did my chores. Jeff went to Lowe's and came back with a knife for me. That's love! Heh.
Sunday, went out to (fucking) Gwinnett early to go to the gun show. Nothing there for me. Jeff found a couple like what he wanted, but the prices were higher. In the middle of the search, he pointed out some S&W .38s. I picked up many guns, but none were the same. I want the Taurus and that's it. Plus, S&W are more than I want to pay. He said, "What does that matter, you're not paying for it." What what WHAT?!?!?!? I was not aware of this. Oh well. We may go back out to that store, though their website says mine is out of stock. Of course, it said this the day we went out there. So, unless they sold it before we got home, they don't update their website very often.
No politics came up, thank gods. We did watch End of Days, which MIL thought was "a bunch of crap." I agree, but not for the same reasons. Well, the movie itself was ok, especially with Gabriel Byrne, but the religious context was ridiculous. Especially the whole Ahnold found jeebus crap at the end. MIL covered her eyes through the sex and violence, and didn't like the language, the best parts! Anyway. Jeff's niece was there with her spawn. She didn't make that much noise, luckily. We did have a discussion about her worthless husband while she and Jeff were out looking at her POS car. She's still better off than my dumbass sister.
Then I made the mistake of saying something like "thank the lord, or whoever" when saying that my sister does not have a baby in comparing her to Jeff's niece. Damn. Didn't mean to insinuate that I'm a christian. They already assume.
An addition to the list of things I've been called on message boards - sick, whore, and now...code monkey! Woo! Yeah, this from an asshat who likes to go on about how his money and intellect make us so beneath him. WTFever.
So I voted in the run-off election. Only took 5 minutes. Woo! While I was voting, got a call on my cell. Checked it when I left, and it was my allergy doctor's office. Turns out my referral has expired, and I'll need a new one for my appointment tomorrow. Ugh. Call my PCP, left a message. The recording said they'd mail it to me in 48 hours, or the doctor could fax a request. Well, they won't do that. Makes no damn sense. I got a little irate with the allergy doc's office. Oops. They're right down the fucking street from my PCP, why must this be so difficult? And why am I just learning about this now? Anyway, got the PCP's office to enter it and fax it over. Wouldn't go in for the normal year since my insurance is changing on 1/1. Fucking annoying. I'm supposed to get a new card sometime this month, and I'll have to have the PCP re-do everything and request a continuation of treatment...or something. Same with the GYN and my rechecks for abnormal cells. I'll have the last of a year of 3 month checks today, then go to 6 months. Fingers crossed.

In better news, my pendant sold! I only found out because someone posted on the message board about selling jewelry, and I mentioned having it on consignment for over a year. Then I bumped the old thread. Someone who works there PMed me and asked if I brought it in, and that she thinks it sold. Wow. Nice to be kept in the loop. I called, and it did. Now I probably can't get out there until Friday to get my check, then I'll have to deposit it at my pain in the ass to get to credit union.
The ranting never ends.
